Sophisticated Grad!

Here's another graduation card I made, this time for a high school graduate!

I got the great idea to 'steal' the high school emblem off of the announcement we received. I 'circle punched' it out of the actual announcement - and then layered it onto a couple of coordinating circle card stock pieces. Then I added it to the card - Wah lah! I got the idea from one of my Stampin' Buddies, Karen (Thanks, Karen!). She made a card for my son using his announcement, and I loved the idea! The one I made is a little bit different layout from hers though.

I like how it's personalized, but simple and sophisticated at the same time!

Bye, Bye Baja Breeze!

Baja Breeze has always been one of my favorite colors... and now it's going to be retired! I'm sad, but I know I'll get over it :) There are some great choices that may replace it - so we'll see! Maybe Soft Sky? and I'm liking the new Pistachio Pudding and Coastal Cabana...

But anyway, I needed a couple birthday cards to mail out today. So I decided to use some things that I know will be retiring. I really liked the Moving Forward (Ronald McDonald charity set), and didn't use it as much as I wanted to - so I did today! I saw a card on Splitcoast (I think) that inspired the design!

Masculine Valentine!

Here's a 'masculine' Valentine I made. I always have a hard time keeping my masculine cards simple! To me, a masculine card should just be clean lines, simple in design and no ribbons or bows! But I didn't really follow that on this card, even though I still consider it masculine. Sometimes it's just hard for me to stop when I'm creating!!

I started pretty clean lines when I created the heart punch-out section - and I added the "Great Sport" background stamp.

But after I added the 'tickets,' I just had to add some Linen Thread - it just NEEDED it!!

Googly Ghouls for a Challenge!

I sure have gotten a lot of use from my Googly Ghouls already, and it's not even October yet!!  They're just too fun to stamp!  So I decided to join Mary Jo Price-Williams Monday Lunchtimes Sketch Challenge - even though it's Tuesday!!

Here's a closer look at the little witch and Boooo that pop from the middle of the card!

And here's the sketch - I'm glad that all five of the Googly ghouls all fit into the sketch!! :)  Also, the sketch challenge is part of a blog hop, so you can check out what other people are doing for the challenge.  And, you can even join in - check it out!!

Boys Can Be Mean!

So yesterday my son tells me it was his friend's birthday, and he wants to give him some money. So I told him ok, and I'll make a card. And he says he doesn't really need a card. Then I told him that's a little weird to just hand your friend some money (but, yeah, maybe 16 year old boys are a little weird anyway, huh?). So, conversation ended, and today I made this card. When I handed it to him, he said he wasn't giving that 'dumb card' to his friend. - What a poop he is!! So I told him then maybe I won't be giving you the money you wanted to give him!

And it gets better... my husband comes in and I tell him that Alex is mean. Blah, blah... birthday... I made this card... So he asks if it's for a boy or a girl. We tell him it's a boy. He says 'no card, just shake his hand and tell him happy birthday.'

So who's out of touch most - me? my husband? Maybe both!!

So whatever! I guess the card will go into my card stash ready to give someone else. Glad it was simple to make and I didn't spend all day on it!

Hope you had a great Sunday!

A Pink Pirouette Valentine

I saw a card on Stampin' Connection the other day that inspired me to make this card. Mine turned out pretty different from the one I started out to copy, but I think that's all good when it becomes your own!

I didn't buy the Take it to Heart set on my original Occasions Mini order, but I gave in after seeing so many cute samples! I realized that all the heart designs are not only great with the new Hearts Collection Framelits, but they're good for a lot more occasions than just Valentines. And then I figured I better get it sooner than later so I could make the most of it for Valentines too!!

So I added texture and Dimensionals to make it a little more interesting. And I also added some Pretty in Pink brads to the side - I used to do that a lot, but haven't in a while - I still like the look!

Quick and the Coolest!

This is the quickest, and coolest, card I've made in less than 2 minutes... ever!! I recently came across a very cool Stampin' Up! demonstrator's blog, by Chris Smith. I Love her style! And I found the idea for this card on her blog. Super simple, but I love it!

Her idea was to take those pieces of Designer Papers that have a lot of pattern to it (this was has kind of a lot to it), and then run it through the Square Lattice embossing folder. Stick that on - add an easy ribbon - and a greeting - Tah Dah!!

Here's a closer view. Maybe you can see the embossing better? Anyway, I just love the idea for this quick and easy card!

By the way, my husband had asked me to make him a thank you card about a week ago - so when he reminded me tonight - this was what he got! I'm sure he thought I've been working on it, but little did he know that I ran upstairs and whipped up this beauty in just a couple minutes!! You can bet I'll be making a card like this again - change up the papers and the saying - awesome!

Non-Traditional Thanksgiving

Maybe Thanksgiving cards aren't very traditional to begin with, but if there were traditional cards I guess they would be old-fashioned looking. Maybe a turkey on the dinner table? Anyway, I think this card I made to send out seems kind of modern!

I started with the Leaves Big Shot die and I used the negative of the die cut. It was cut from a piece of textured Soft Suede cardstock. Then I added the Spice Cake papers underneath it.

I added more layers from the Spice Cake papers and coordinating cardstock colors (Pool Party, More Mustard, Very Vanilla). Then I added the saying from the Falling Leaves set.

Non-traditional, but kind of fun!

Loads of Love for Alex!

I made this card today for my son. He's taking the test for his driving permit, and it's not the first time... So, I hope this time is the charm! He was being kind of lazy in studying for it when he took it before. I think he thought it wouldn't be that hard. Anyway, he has been studying and took a couple practice tests over the weekend. I know he's worried about it, so I decided to make him a card. I know he doesn't always seem to appreciate the cards I make, but I still wanted to show him that I care.

I used the Loads of Love set, and added the boy and dogs from the Loads of Love Accessories set. It was the most appropriate set I have for a driving kind of card.

And I wasn't sure about what saying to use so I combined some parts from both of the Loads of Love sets. I kind of like how it came out. I masked the 'driving by with' and added the 'Loads of Love' to it. And I like how the 1/8" black taffeta draws your eye across to the tag. I guess the gray ribbon frosting is maybe a little feminine, but I just had to do it. I love my ribbon frosting!

Even if he doesn't appreciate the card, I just hope he does well on his test.

Sailin' Away - New Look!

This is actually a card I made a while ago, and I just changed the saying. I needed a birthday card today (and didn't have the time to make a new one) so I just stole one out of my samples basket! Then I added the birthday saying from the Petite Pairs set (loooove this set!).

Here's a closer look at the saying. I punched it out with the oval punch, and stuck right where the 'hello' saying used to be! Wahlah! - a new card!

By the way, if you like the sailboat stamp 'Sail Away,' it won't be available after the end of this month. It's in the Summer Mini catalog, and that ends on August 31st.

A Birthday Star!

I was looking to make a simple card for one of the many August birthdays in our family, and I saw a cute one made by Niki Toll on Stampin' Connection. So I decided to change up the colors and make one too! Her colors were actually kind of cuter, but I didn't have the same papers.

Here's a closer-up of the star. I like the little banner piece coming out of the side of the star. And I like all the texture to the pieces - Where would my cards be without Embossing Folders?!

Off to make some more birthday cards...
